Justification for IT Spending Drives Demand for Comprehensive IT Asset Management Suite

Express Software Manager 6.1 provides customers with cost control measures through web reporting and enhanced hardware support

SEATTLE - June 3, 2002 - In an economic downturn when budget dollars are flat and staff resources are scarce, every IT organization is striving to maximize the value of its resources. To address this critical business challenge, Express Metrix today announced the new release of its IT asset management software suite, Express Software Manager 6.1. Express Software Manager 6.1 meets IT's need for comprehensive desktop management information, enabling staff to evaluate license and support costs, make efficient purchasing decisions, and better allocate resources.

"IT asset management is an essential discipline for assessing cost controls and justifying IT spending in the current economic environment. Given the increased anti-piracy efforts of major software vendors and industry organizations this year, verifying legal software usage is also now a critical part of minimizing a company's legal risk," said Express Metrix Co-Founder and CEO Kris Barker. "Express Software Manager 6.1 not only facilitates license compliance, it also provides the critical information employees need for decision-making through immediate access to essential management data."

The new release comes at a time when organizations are weighing the value of all spending. Organizations need a complete picture of all their desktop assets to make decisions about the costs of systems changes, software purchasing, hardware capabilities to support software migrations, and the installation of security-related software. Companies like Verizon Wireless, Central States of Omaha, and IPNet Solutions have realized the value of IT asset management and are using Express Software Manager to aid in the tracking of software and hardware assets.

"Thanks to Express Metrix, IPNet has realized immediate and substantial cost savings," said Florencio Espinoza, Sr. Systems Engineer, Group Lead for IT, IPNet solutions.

About Express Software Manager 6.1

Express Software Manager 6.1 provides powerful decision-support and usage-assessment information for sophisticated buyers looking to control their software and hardware assets. Through a suite of asset management tools that integrates inventory, software usage metering, and reporting, Express Software Manager 6.1 enables organizations to effectively manage their software and hardware assets by giving an in-depth analysis of desktop PCs and the applications residing on them. The Express Knowledgebase provides customers with a competitive advantage by automatically identifying applications from files collected on client machines. With the new web-based reports, increased hardware reporting with WMI, and Windows XP client in Express Software Manager 6.1, IT is able to increase staff efficiency by providing critical decision-support information to a wider audience.

Highlights of the new release include:

Web-Based Reports: With the consolidation and reduction of most IT staffs, it has become imperative for more diverse (and often less technically savvy) employees to be able to participate in IT asset management decisions. The new web-based reports module provides critical information to a diverse audience, such as purchasing agents, non-technical managers, and end-users who do not require the sophistication of the existing Crystal-based reporting engine. Express Software Manager can now provide essential management data to any user at any time.

Enhanced Hardware Support: Express Software Manager 6.1 now utilizes Microsoft WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) to collect and deliver additional hardware information on devices such as video adapters, network cards, and monitors. In addition to values like NIC address, memory, IP address, disk space, and CPU name and type, Express Software Manager now provides PC serial number, sound and video card information, NIC manufacturer, and virtually any other hardware value. The information collected is configurable-an Express administrator can add or remove items to best suit their organization's needs.

Additional functionality includes: an Express client specifically designed for Windows XP systems to collect inventory and usage information, performance enhancements to the Reports Console for the fast loading of reports, modification of the Reports Console interface for easier report filtering, and two new utilities for backup and restore, enhancing data security and disaster recovery efforts.

Pricing and Availability

Express Software Manager 6.1 is available today through Express Metrix and its international distribution network. Entry-level pricing for Express Software Manager 6.1 is $36, which includes a 20 percent first-year maintenance fee for future product upgrades, updates to the Express Knowledgebase, and ongoing access to the company's superior technical support. Existing Express Software Manager customers who have current maintenance agreements receive the upgrade to 6.1 at no charge.
