Express Metrix Will Power Numara Software’s Application Recognition

When asked about our company’s products, most people immediately think of Express Software Manager®, our flagship product offered to businesses for IT asset inventory, software usage, and license reporting.  What many (including our long-standing customers) don’t realize is that we also separately license our software catalog, one of the key components of Express Software Manager, to a very different “customer”—asset management vendors themselves.

Today we are proud to add Numara Software to a growing list of OEM partners, which includes IBM, LANDesk, New Boundary, BMC, and Amando Software.   The Express Software Identification Database (ESID)® will power the software recognition for Numara’s Asset Management Platform, strengthening the accuracy and reliability of its existing capabilities such as asset inventory, software deployment, patch management, and license tracking.  Read the press release here.

CEO Kris Barker Invited to Speak at IBSMA’s SAM Summit

For anyone planning to attend the IBSMA’s SAM Summit this June in Chicago, be sure not to miss Kris Barker’s (Express Metrix’s CEO) presentation on application recognition, entitled: “Software Identification: What You Need To Know.”

Kris’ presentation ties perfectly into this year’s theme, in that it will address the critical role software identification plays in your software asset management efforts.  Topics will include: why accurate application recognition is so important, the existing methodologies for identifying apps(along with their pitfalls), the current state of software tagging, and the role technology plays in application recognition.

Join us for a special webinar this Friday that will cover everything you need to know about software identification and how it relates to your software license management efforts.  This is a repeat of the presentation I delievered at the IAITAM Annual Conference back in October.

Here are a few of the topics the webinar will cover: (more…)

Debrief on IAITAM 2010 Annual Conference

To be completely honest, I’ve never been much of a tradeshow enthusiast.  Between a pesky L5 vertebrae (I’m 6′2″ and no, I don’t fly first class), the difficulty keeping up with the torrent of email, and a seemingly futile quest to perfect my “elevator pitch” on the tradeshow floor, I’d rather my time out of the office be spent sipping Mai-Tais on a sandy beach.

That said, this year’s IAITAM conference was an exception to the typical tradeshow.  The attendees with whom I spoke were genuinely enthusiastic and highly knowledgeable.  Many have lived through multiple IT asset management (ITAM) initiatives and technologies due to job changes, mergers and acquisitions, and shifts in organizational priorities. The sessions were exceptionally well-attended and covered a wide array of ITAM topics from high-level educational topics to detailed technical discussions.

In addition, I had the privilege of delivering a talk on Wednesday entitled “Software Identification: Present Realities and Future Possibilities“.  The presentation covered the following areas: (more…)

SMBs Historically Underserved by SAM Tools (Part 2 of 2)

This is the second of two posts related to the challenges SMBs often encounter finding asset management software that matches their functional requirements, resource limitations, and budgets.  You can read the first post in the series here.

In this post I’ll explore five functional areas where SMBs have been underserved both by large, enterprise-oriented suites, as well as by the more basic, lower-cost computer inventory products.

1) License management capabilities
