Express Metrix Simplifies Asset Management With the Release of Express Software Manager 6.2

New product features and enhancements make Express Software Manager 6.2 more powerful and easier to administer

SEATTLE - October 3, 2002 - Recognizing the need for easy-to-use IT asset management tools, Express Metrix today announced the release of Express Software Manager 6.2. New product features and enhancements are specifically designed to ease the burden organizations face in establishing and maintaining an asset management program. Express Software Manager 6.2 provides enhancements to web based reporting, inventory recognition for software suites, support for Windows XP, and streamlined installation of application recognition database updates.

"In today's economy, IT departments are forced to do more work with less resources. Making better use of existing resources is the primary reason organizations choose an IT asset management tool. Unfortunately, not all tools on the market today actually accomplish this goal; some actually create more work than benefit," said Express Metrix Co-Founder and CEO, Kris Barker. "Express Software Manager 6.2 is designed to efficiently provide more information to more users, enabling IT managers to use resources wisely."

IT asset management tools provide organizations an automated way to gather data about their hardware and software assets. Understanding hardware configuration, software installation, and usage of desktop assets allows organizations to plan for the cost of technology migrations, understand the need for future hardware upgrades, and ensure license compliance. While most asset management tools are capable of collecting thousands of data points, a superior tool presents the data collected in a clear and meaningful way. With its robust data collection and extensive reporting capabilities, Express Software Manager is the IT asset management choice of organizations such as Verizon Wireless, Central States of Omaha, and IP Net solutions.

About Express Software Manager 6.2

Express Software Manager 6.2 provides decision-support and usage-assessment information for organizations that want to manage their IT resources. Through a suite of tools that integrate computer inventory, software metering, and reporting, Express Software Manager 6.2 enables organizations to effectively manage their software and hardware assets by giving an in-depth analysis of desktop PCs and the applications residing on them. The Express Knowledgebase provides customers with automatic identification of applications, including software suites, from files collected on client machines. Enhancements to the web-based reports, increased hardware reporting with WMI, and support for Windows XP ensure the IT staff has quick access to accurate decision-support information. With web reporting, Express Software Manager 6.2 also ensures that information can be made available to a wider audience.

Highlights of the new release include:

Software Suite Recognition: Express Software Manager 6.2 now provides software suite recognition by the Express Inventory tool. On inventory reports, organizations using software suites will see, for example, where Microsoft Office Standard is installed, as well the individual components comprising that suite: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint. Software suite recognition provides a more accurate picture of installed software, useful in ensuring license compliance.

Enhanced Web-Based Reports: The web-based reporting module now provides integrated, detailed hardware and software information for more complete decision support. Web reporting makes this information available to a larger and potentially less technical audience.

Additional functionality: Support for Windows XP desktops now includes the ability to lock out unauthorized applications. The process for updating the automatic recognition database for software applications is now simpler and faster.

Pricing and Availability

Express Software Manager 6.2 is available today through Express Metrix and its international distribution network. Entry-level pricing for Express Software Manager 6.2 is $36, which includes a 20 percent first-year maintenance fee for future product upgrades, updates to the Express Knowledgebase, and ongoing access to the company's superior technical support. Existing Express Software Manager customers who have current maintenance agreements receive the upgrade to 6.2 at no charge.
