Advanced Installation Options

Express Software Manager consists of a client-resident component (the Express Client) and several non-client components which may be placed on different machines in your environment. While this is normally needed during evaluation, there are situations where you may want to experiment with this to better understand the installation flexibility for use later in a production environment. Some of the possibilities include:

  • Use an existing SQL Server installation
You can have Express Software Manager create and maintain the Express Database on an existing SQL Server installation. Run setup on the SQL Server box and select only the database component. This will create the Express Database and install the required database utilities.
  • Use an existing IIS installation
You can use an existing IIS installation to run the Express Access Point. Run setup on the IIS box and select only the access point component. The access point files and web reports will be installed.
  • Install the Reports Console on a separate machine
You may have other users who need access to Express Crystal-based reporting. Run setup on the user's machine and select only the reports console component. You will need to give the user information about the Express Database including SQL Server name, Express Database name (normally esm800.exe), Express user (normally Express) and password.

These are only a few of the possibilities. Please see the Express Software Manager QuickStart Guide for more information on rolling out server-side components to separate machines.
