The Express PC Audit & Inventory Tool is also available as an HTML Application which can be downloaded to your PC. Internet Explorer is still utilized, but the tool runs as an application on your desktop using IE functionality to generate the audit display. To download the Express PC Audit & Inventory Tool to your PC:
- Click the Download button below and save pc-audit-inventory.exe to a known location. (pc-audit-inventory.exe is a self-extracting ZIP file which includes a simple installation script to copy the files to a user-selectable location.)
- Run pc-audit-inventory.exe, answer Yes to the prompt, and click Unzip to unzip the files and start the installation script.
- Modify the default location and icon creation, if desired, and click Install. The script runs in just a few seconds and displays a summary the actions it performed.
- Click Exit to exit the script.
By default, the installation script also creates Start Menu and desktop icons to launch the tool. You can also launch it directly by running pc-audit-inventory.hta from the folder in which it was installed.
Note: In this environment, there are no security settings changes required - simply start the tool and in a few minutes, results will be displayed. As with the web-based version, no collected information is sent back over the network - PC audit data is collected and displayed locally only.
