Express Software Manager Minimum System Requirements

Express Software Manager includes several integrated components for data collection, consolidation, administration, and reporting. These components reside on the system administrator's workstation, servers, and user workstations.

The product components can be installed on one server or on multiple computers. For more information about each component, see the product architecture page.

Note: You do not need a separate hardware device for each component, for example, you can install the entire product on one server. When installing all components to a single server you should ensure that the selected machine meets the memory requirements shown for the Express Server component.

Express Administrative Console
1.5GHz, Windows 2000 SP4 or above (including Vista), 512MB RAM, 100 MB disk, Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0

Express Reports Console
1.5GHz, Windows 2000 SP4 or above (including Vista), 512MB RAM, 50 MB disk

Express Server
1.5GHz, Windows 2000 SP4 or above (including Vista), 100 MB disk, Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0

The Express Server maintains the data collections that are viewed within the Express Administrative Console. The following are memory recommendations for the Express Server machine based on the number of Express Clients installed:
Number of computers Recommended RAM
0 - 100 512MB
101 - 1000 1GB
1001 - 2000 2GB
2001 and up 4GB

Express Database
1.5GHz, 512MB RAM, 200MB disk, SQL Server 2000 or 2005 (or SQL Server Express which is included with the product), Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (required for automated database creation)

Note: The Express Database can reside on any Microsoft SQL Server and the RAM requirements may vary greatly depending on other SQL Server-based applications. The Express Database will consume approximately 1MB of data for every computer on which the Express Client is installed.

Express Access Point
1.5GHz, Windows 2000 Server SP2 or above, 512MB RAM, 100MB disk, Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, IIS 5.0 or above

Note: We do not recommend installing the Express Access Point on a server that hosts Software Update Services (SUS) server or Windows Server Update Services (WSUS). Microsoft recommends that server running IIS and hosting SUS or WSUS host no other application. Please see Microsoft's KB Article 322365 in the Microsoft Knowledge Base at http://support.microsoft.com for additional information about this configuration.

Express Client
Windows 2000 (workstation and server), Windows XP (32- and 64-bit),
Windows 2003 Server (32- and 64-bit), Windows Vista (32- and 64-bit)
WMI 1.5 or greater (This is installed by default on Win2K and above)

Note: Windows firewall must be configured to allow remote access (or disabled) to install the client remotely via the Express Administrative Console.

Other
Domain Administrator or Local Administrator credentials for centralized deployment
Database administrator credentials for initial database creation
