We are excited to announce that the next release of Express Software Manager, Version 8.0, is now available! This release continues our ongoing commitment to deliver products that meet our customers' evolving IT asset management needs, as well as exceed their expectations for high-quality reporting and ease of use. New features in Express Software Manager 8.0 include enhanced metering functionality and reporting, expanded administrative features, and broad support for industry-standard technologies.

Maintained customers may upgrade to Version 8.0 at no cost.

Enhanced Metering Functionality

• Idle Time Reporting - This feature lets customers track applications that have been launched but are not actively being used, allowing them to determine whether licenses are being utilized effectively in their environments.
• Idle Time Termination - This feature will close any program that has been idle for a specified period of time on the desktop. It can be used as a security measure, or to free up concurrently-licensed applications for waiting users.
• Wait List for Concurrently Licensed Applications - When all available concurrent licenses are in use, Express Software Manager blocks additional users from launching the application. This feature places users on a wait list and notifies them when a license becomes available.

Expanded Administration Features

• Express Administrative Console Policies - This feature allows customers to define polices that specify who can access the Express Administrative Console and what views they can access. Changes made by authorized users are documented and can be reported on.
• Ability to Track Additional Assets - Customers can now incorporate devices such as routers and switches into their reporting.
• Automated Remote Appscan Capabilities - When contributing unrecognized applications for inclusion in the Express Software Identification Database, administrators can now run the Express application scanner (Appscan) on remote computers and automatically update the results to an Express Metrix FTP site.

Broad Support for Industry-Standard Technologies

• HTTPS Client Support - The data between the Express Client and the Express Access Point can be encrypted over an HTTPS connection. This will ensure secure data transfer from clients to the Express Access Point.
• Vista 32-bit Support - All Express Software Manager components are supported.
• Windows 2003 Server 64-bit - All Express Software Manager components are supported.
• 64-bit Client Support - The Express Client now runs on all 64-bit Windows operating systems.
• Windows Terminal Server/Citrix Enhancements - The Express Client has been redesigned to provide a smaller memory footprint and better deal with a variety of usage scenarios when metering in Windows Terminal Server and Citrix environments.
• .NET 2.0 Support - Overall user interface and performance enhancements through use of new .NET 2.0 functionality.
