Obtaining the SQL and Web Reporting Patch, Ex1283ag.exe
Technical Note 1390
Last Reviewed 16-Mar-2001

Applies To
Express Software Manager version 4.5 only

Summary
This technical note provides instructions for obtaining and applying the Ex1283ag.exe patch in order to update the script files used by the SQL and Web Reporting clients in Express Software Manager 4.5.

Warning: This patch is NOT necessary when using the SQL and Web Reporting clients in Express Software Manager version 5.x.

Note: For information about installing Express Reports for Microsoft SQL Server, see Technical Note 1389. For more information about setting up Express Web Reporting, see the Howto.txt file in the Web Reporting folder (by default, C:\Program Files\WRQ\Express Console\Reskit\Web Reporting).

About the Patch
After installing or upgrading the Express Console and Enterprise Services to Express Software Manager 4.5, you will need to update two script files used by the SQL and Web reporting clients. These scripts should improve the performance of both SQL and Web reports by automatically optimizing the indexes after exporting. The newer scripts will also reduce the time required to export large databases to SQL.

The Ex1283ag.exe patch is a self-extracting zip file that includes the updated script files, Mssql.scp and Webrep.scp, and a Readme file. Note: Mssql.scp and Webrep.scp are not SQL scripts--they must be used with the Express Database Installer.

  • Apply the patch before running the Express Database Installer to set up Express SQL and Web Reports in Express Software Manager version 4.5.

  • If you have already run the Express Database Installer to set up Express SQL and Web Reports, Express Metrix strongly recommends that you apply the Ex1283ag.exe patch and re-run the Database Installer. (Note: Re-running the Database Installer will not affect previously exported data.)

Obtaining and Applying the Patch
To obtain and install the Ex1283ag.exe patch, follow these instructions on each machine where you have installed Express Console:

  1. Use a web browser to link to the Express Metrix web site:

  1. Run Ex1283ag.exe to expand the file. Specify a temporary location on your machine for the extracted files (by default, C:\45patch1).

  2. Copy Mssql.scp from the temporary location to the SQL Reporting folder on the Console machine (by default, C:\Program Files\WRQ\Express Console\Reskit\SQL Reporting). When prompted to replace the existing file, click Yes.

  3. Copy Webrep.scp from the temporary location to the Web Reporting folder on the Console machine (by default, C:\Program Files\WRQ\Express Console\Reskit\Web Reporting). When prompted to replace the existing file, click Yes.

You will be prompted for these scripts when you run the Express Database Installer to set up Express SQL and Web Reporting. For more information about setting up Express Reports for SQL Server, see Technical Note 1389. For more information about setting up Express Web Reporting, see the Howto.txt file in the Web Reporting folder (by default, C:\Program Files\WRQ\Express Console\Reskit\Web Reporting).
