Installing Express Software Manager 5.01 to a Non-Windows Partition
Technical Note 1554
Last Reviewed 27-Jul-2001
Applies To
Express Software Manager version 5.01
Summary
If Express Software Manager 5.01 is installed to a drive other than the drive where Windows is installed, Express Software Manager and/or Enterprise Services will not work properly. This technical note describes how to obtain and apply a patch to correct the problem.
Problem
Express Software Manager and/or Enterprise Services have been installed to a non-Windows partition.
Symptoms
Although machines appear in the Express Console, no information is available in any report. Updating the database (on the Tools menu in Express Console, point to Library, and then click Update Database) has no effect. No dialog box appears and there is no indication that information is being updated.
If you are using Express Enterprise Services, they seem to start but do not perform any tasks.
Solution
If Express Software Manager is installed on a drive other than the one where Windows is installed, follow these steps:
- Download Excomutl.dll from the Express Metrix web site:
- Rename the existing Excomutl.dll file from the \Express Console folder to Excomutl.old. If applicable (if you have installed Enterprise Services), also rename the file from the \Express Services folder.
- Copy the updated Excomutl.dll file to \Express Console and to \Express Services if applicable.
