Installing the Express Client in Verbose Mode
Technical Note 1589
Last Reviewed 15-Oct-2002
Applies To
Express Software Manager version 4.0 and higher
Summary
If the Express client did not install successfully on a client workstation, reinstall the client in verbose mode. Installing the Express client in verbose mode allows you to check for installation errors. Follow the steps in this technical note to install the Express client in verbose mode.
Reinstalling the Client in Verbose Mode
To reinstall the client in verbose mode:
- On the client workstation, choose Run from the Start menu.
- Browse out to the \Clients folder of the application library.
- Select Exinst32.exe and click Open.
- Add a “-v” (without the quotes) to the end of the path. Your command should look something like this:
\\<servername>\<library path>\Clients\Exinst32.exe -v
- Click OK to run the client install program. After the install program is finished it displays information about the success or failure of the client installation.
If errors appear, use these to help you identify why the client installation is failing. After addressing the cause of the errors, reinstall the client in verbose mode and check for additional errors. Repeat this until the client installs successfully.
Note: If the installation is successful, you may be prompted to restart the workstation. If you are prompted to restart, the Express client will not be fully functional until you have done this.
